Can you post a pic? Can’t visualize this. Does it fit in an overhead?

Comment on Olympus 9-18mm Lens – Quick Look by John Gulliver https://blog.bluewaterphotostore.com/photo/olympus-9-18mm-lens-quick-look/#comment-65447 Sat, 17 May 2014 08:57:41 +0000 http://www.bluewaterphotostore.com/blog/?post_type=photo&p=779#comment-65447 Thanks! That is very helpful. Do you happen to know if the lens will fit Nauticam’s Macro 65 port? The lens is 79.5mm in diameter and 73mm long. I Think the length should be okay as the 60mm macro lens is 82mm long but I’m afraid the diameter may be a millimetre or two too wide.

The lens will function fine. The main reason to use a dome port is to gain back the angle of view that is lost due to magnification behind a flat port under water. With a dome port you’ll get the same angle of view you get on land, approx 100 degrees @ 9mm. Behind a flat port you’ll lose about 25% due to refraction. However it will not affect focusing or quality, etc… Hope that is helpful! -K

In your description of the Oly E-PM1/14-42mm zoom lens/Oly housing bundle you stated that the standard Oly flat port is comptible with the 9-18mm lens. I realise that a dome port is a much better option but is the lens usable at all in a flat port?

Comment on Canon G15 quick review by Paul Eisenberg https://blog.bluewaterphotostore.com/photo/canon-g15-quick-review/#comment-43285 Mon, 31 Mar 2014 14:20:41 +0000 http://www.bluewaterphotostore.com/blog/?post_type=photo&p=715#comment-43285 Just returned from 20 dives at CoCo View in Roatan. Used my G15 with Canon housing. Good camera fit and access to all controls except unable to retract flash once released. Shot all natural light, which I greatly prefer to the harsh colors and shadows with flash. Shot nudis, eels, sea horses, barracuda, squid, wide angle scenes, diver shots front lit, backlit. Even shot eels in dark spaces under overhangs. Set to RAW plus JPEG and used shutter priority, built in underwater white balance, fine tuned in Photoshop. I use a stanless dive rod on a wrist band, and use this to anchor in sand or against hard rock/hard rock to stabilize myself and camera but only when needed (in surge, etc.) for Quick focus. Sharp images. No issues with the camera or housing. Next time will try some of tips I’ve read. I was able to get shots like my Canon 7D in Ikelite Housing with dome port, L series 17-40 and 10-22 lenses. And, so much easier to handle. A bit less flexibility than my &D setup, but probably not enough to warrant the travel weight and hassle of my big kit. Very satisfied with this set up.

Your photographs are exceptionally beautiful! I have photographed them on my trips to parts of the Caribbean. Just one comment to add; you did not mention the Fingerprint Flamingo Tongue, which seems less common, but is also as fascinating!
Thank you for inviting other divers and underwater photographers to on the lookout for the sea creatures in the macro world!

Full size dslr in Aquatica housing, 2 strobes, sync chords, dive computer, 2nd body,2or3 lenses. All in an AO cooler bag. Padded with a couple of shirts and shorts. I can’t imagine the ThinkTank is any lighter. The cooler bag draws no attention and had never been weighed.
Cheers, Joe.
